Today’s interview is with Cinnamon, a 25-year-old Project Manager who lives in Bath. Cinnamon suffers from a severe nut allergy that requires her to carry an EpiPen at all times. Her allergy is so extreme that even being in the presence of Brazil nuts can trigger a reaction. Cinnamon is also a vegetarian but tries to adhere to a vegan diet. When not busy with work, Cinnamon likes to spend time with her friends and family, she enjoys the theatre, travel, singing, and cooking.Cinnamon’s interview gave us a great insight into the reality of eating out with a life threatening allergy.

How many times a week do you eat out and roughly how much do you spend? On average I would say I eat out about once a week. I love going out for all kinds of meals. I tend to spend around £20-30 depending on drinks but on special occasions am happy to pay for great food. What foods can you not eat or wish to avoid?I have been a strict vegetarian all my life and now have a largely vegan diet. When I was 17 I discovered I have a nut allergy when I went into anaphylactic shock after eating something that contained brazil nuts. This experience really shook my confidence when it came to eating out and having other people prepare my food and it has taken a long time for me to become comfortable eating in unfamiliar environments. How do you decide where to eat?I love to try lots of diverse food, but with my nut allergy, this can be tricky. I check the menu religiously before I chose to dine out, to ensure I can be safe. I also love to eat in places where the staff are friendly and do their best to help me with my requirements,What would make eating out easier for you and allow you to #eatwithconfidence? I don’t like making a fuss and so it can feel embarrassing to have to always announce my dietary needs, people can have a lack of understanding around the seriousness of allergies. Also being vegan and not being able to eat nuts can seriously be a challenge! Being able to select dishes that I know I can tuck into without worrying in a subtle way really helps and transparency around what meals contain really takes away the fear. Having to worry about who can you use your EpiPens if you need them can spoil a meal and so feeling confident that my meal is safe for me is a really important thing.Tell us your favourite restaurant? The Acorn Vegetarian Kitchen in Bath is my favourite place to eat and is always my first choice on special occasions. The restaurant used to be attached to the Demuths Cookery School and so the food is always incredible. Everything is vegetarian (as you would expect from the name!) but I have been there with very sceptical carnivores who have been seriously impressed by the meals. They really show you that vegan and vegetarian food can be beautiful and exciting.Kafoodle's software works to help people like Cinnamon #eatwithconfidence. Our cloud-based kitchen management system connects chefs to the customer and everyone else in between.
